Promoting Menstrual Health and Hygiene: Empowering Young Girls at PPES

Menstrual health and hygiene are vital for women’s well-being, especially for young girls. Proper management ensures infection prevention, boosts confidence, and allows girls to participate fully in educational and social activities. Addressing menstrual health also helps break down social stigmas, fostering an open environment for discussing needs and experiences. At PPES, we are dedicated to raising awareness and empowering our students and their communities.

In April, we made significant strides in promoting menstrual health. We conducted a Menstrual Cup Awareness Session for 81 girls in the 10th class, distributing 31 menstrual cups. This session highlighted the importance of hygiene, infection prevention, and comfort during menstruation. Introducing menstrual cups provided a sustainable alternative to traditional products, reducing waste and promoting long-term health benefits.

On World Menstrual Hygiene Day, we educated girls about menstruation and broke associated taboos, promoting positive norms and ensuring that periods do not hinder education.

“World Menstrual Hygiene Day was eye-opening for many of us. It’s important to talk about these things openly and support each other,” said Priya, a student.

To support broader community involvement, we met with the Block Program Manager of the National Health Mission (BPMNHM) and ASHA workers on April 8th. This meeting aimed to secure support for menstrual health training for the Self-Help Group (SHG) community, creating a ripple effect of awareness and healthy practices among women and girls.
